An imam from the Emirates
Sheikh Khalifa Al-Tunaiji is an Emirati imam and reciter whose voice is familiar to many people in the United Arab Emirates and across the Gulf. His recitations are heard in mosques and in countless personal collections, and his complete recording of the Quran has become a faithful companion for many listeners.
His way of reciting
Al-Tunaiji recites in the murattal style with a balanced, warm voice. His delivery is calm and easy to follow; the melody stays modest and serves the text. Typical of him is the composure with which he carries even long surahs: no rushing, no exaggeration, just an even, dignified flow. Many describe his reading as "coming home" – familiar, unobtrusive and deep for exactly that reason.
The Emirates and their love for the Quran
Reciters like Sheikh Khalifa are part of a beautiful tradition in the Emirates. The country's founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan – may Allah have mercy on him – supported the care of the Quran and of mosques. Today there are Quran centres throughout the country where children and adults learn, and through competitions such as the Dubai International Holy Quran Award the Emirates honour young people every year who have memorised the Book of Allah.
