A familiar voice in Medina
Sheikh Abdulbari Ath-Thubaity is one of the imams and preachers of the Prophet's Mosque in Medina. For many visitors who pray there, his voice is closely tied to their memories of the place: the quiet dawn prayers, the Friday sermons and the nights of Ramadan when the mosque is full right out into its courtyards.
Knowledge and responsibility
Beyond his role in the mosque, Sheikh Ath-Thubaity is a man of learning who works in the Islamic sciences. His sermons are calm, well structured and speak to people's everyday lives – family, character, gratitude and patience. You can feel this closeness to life in his recitation too.
His way of reciting
Ath-Thubaity recites murattal with a gentle, even voice. He does not rely on big leaps in pitch but on a calm flow in which each verse finds its place. His pronunciation is clear, the pace comfortable, the pauses natural. In long prayers this is soothing: you can listen without tiring and stay with the meaning.
What you can take from him as a learner
- Evenness: he shows that beautiful recitation does not have to be loud or dramatic. For beginners that is encouraging.
- Reading along: his comfortable pace is ideal for following word by word in the mushaf or in our player.
- Bringing calm into learning: many people listen to his prayer recordings to settle their hearts before their own study.
What remains
Sheikh Abdulbari Ath-Thubaity embodies a kind of imam you do not forget even though he is never loud: reliable, caring, serious in knowledge and gentle in tone. Listening to him gives you a sense of how the Quran calms the heart – as Allah says: "Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." (13:28). May Allah preserve him and accept his service.
