Roots and training
Sheikh Saad Al-Ghamdi comes from the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. He memorised the Qur'an and received an ijazah in recitation in the reading of Hafs from 'Asim. Alongside this he studied the Islamic sciences. He began leading prayers early and became known as an imam, especially in the nights of Ramadan, when many people came to hear his recitation.
His work
Al-Ghamdi became known worldwide through his complete murattal recording of the Qur'an. It spread first on cassettes and CDs and later online, and today it can be found in countless apps, websites and mosques. For many Muslims around the world, especially children and people memorising the Qur'an, his voice is a constant companion. He has also been invited to recite and lead prayers in various countries.
His style
Al-Ghamdi's recitation is clear, calm and very even. His voice is pleasant, medium to deep, with a gentle warmth. He recites at a balanced pace, using a simple, recurring melody that is easy to remember. His tajweed is clean and unobtrusive. This combination makes his recitation particularly accessible: it is beautiful, but never complicated. You can sense a reciter whose main concern is to pass on the Qur'an clearly and correctly.
What you can learn from him
Al-Ghamdi is one of the most loved voices for memorising the Qur'an. His even melody helps the memory: once you have heard a passage often enough with him, the text keeps "sounding" in your head, and the next verse comes more easily. He is also a good companion for children, because his pronunciation is distinct and his pace comfortable.
A practical tip: use the repeat function in our player for a single verse, say it back, and then read the tafsir for it. That way memorisation and understanding go together.
May Allah preserve him and make his recitation an ongoing good deed for him.
